The primary purpose of the SHS Astronomy Club will be to institute the field of astronomy and astrophysics to interested students. By providing individuals with the opportunity to partake in space-related activities in quantum science, stars, and celestial science, as well as utilizing various astronomical techniques.
The main goal of the SHS Astronomy Club is to provide a platform for all students interested in the given field, to hone a “hands-on” experience, as well as an in-depth understanding of astronomical techniques all advocating for an understanding in the daily work experience of astronomers and astrophysicists.
The SHS Astronomy Club will offer a variety of life-like simulations, hands-on activities used to shadow professional astronomers, and documentaries as a guide to understanding space and time. Our Club will host numerous intramural competitions to advocate for understanding.
While numerous SHS clubs focus on specific aspects of society, Astronomy Club envisions a community of members collaborating on projects, watching documentaries, analyzing celestial bodies, and uncovering the mysteries of the universe. Though we instruct upon analysis and astronomical techniques, the Club will be providing our members with the opportunity for hands-on learning through the completion of a range of simulations, day-to-day astrophysical and astronomical techniques, as well as projects.
From astrophysics to light chemistry, Astronomy Club ensures that all its members leave with a high knowledge of space.
Intramurals, state, national, and international, Astronomy Club works to allow all our members pursue a competition of their choice.
Working with others can be a challenge. But, Astronomy Club introduces simulations and game-changing projects for all to work on.
The SHS Astronomy Club is a non-discriminatory community that will work tirelessly to ensure that students not only have fun, but take away something valuable, and have meaningful experiences for their future endeavors. In addition to aligning with Stevenson’s vision and mission, we will be providing a surplus of benefits and opportunities which correspond with Stevenson’s Portrait of a Graduate. Primarily, a student's commitment to engage in civic duties and responsibilities. Through this club, students can foster innovation, creativity, empathy, and many other traits to enhance their experience as a Stevenson student. The Astronomy Club also can provide an opportunity for students to develop life long skills, be it in the field of astronomy and astrophysics, or in their general day-to-day lives. Finally, the Astronomy Club promotes collaboration through the iteration of group activities. With all of these factors in mind, Stevenson’s values line up with that of our club ensuring a significant takeaway for all members.
